Wild baby eastern milk.. what should I feed it?

Critterchick1934 Jan 22, 2005 03:43 PM

Hello all, A friend of mine found a baby eastern milk in a laundry basket in his basement. He was going to release it but we have like almost a foot of snow out there. He/she is very small maybe only five or six inches long. I was wondering what should I try to feed it, I was thinking pinkies but I dunno if it is too small to eat those.. any suggestions would be great.

Thanks a lot,

Teal

Try a newborn pinkie, they are tiny. Ask the pet store for the smallest one. Make sure the snake stays warm about 75-80 degrees.

Boy, Eastern Milks are coming out of the woodwork! Yours in a laundry basket, mine (posted below)found in a basement, both in the dead of winter! What's up with that! Years ago I'd search and search and couldn't find a single one! LOL.

I find alot of the eastern milks I catch don't want to eat pinkys. so I usually have to trick them. if it doesn't eat a plain pinky you can always try scenting, use a small piece of lizard skin and stick it to the pinkys head. Iv'e used lizards, salamanders, other snake species as scenters. also try feeding it at night. if none of those work you might try and brain it stick a tooth pick into the head of the pinky and let a little bit of juice run out. good luck if you need more ideas or help you can Email me milkman13114@aol.com

Hey thanks for the info. Yeah thats what I figured. I work at a small pet store. I've been waiting for a mouse to drop to get something small enough.. shes taking forever. I hope I can get him/her to eat. Anyway.. thanks again

If your planning on letting the snake go in the spring I would say put it in a plastic contain and let it hibernate in your fridge so you dont screw up its natural cycle.
