My new Rock python, she's a beauty!!

chainsaw Jan 22, 2005 05:54 PM

Thought I'd share pics of the female Rock that I adopted.I used to take care of her for a friend that owned a reptile exhibit/rescue,and it was love at first sight!LOL!!Well,my friend decided that she can no longer handle the rescue and her buisiness at the same time. So,she asked if I would take Roxanne(the Rock python),what could I say.......YES!!! I'm in the process of building her a cage, and hope to have her moved in soon. What else can I say,I just love this snake!!
Here's a pic of me with my new girl!

Awesome rock you got there, can't wait till my females that size. I hate the stereo type on these animals mine has a great personality, how old and big is yours? I see you have a bunch of other cages, what animals do you keep?

chainsaw Jan 23, 2005 02:17 PM

Yeah, they're not all as bad as people make them out to be!She's over 12',and at least 3 years old. Some of the animals in the pic are mine, like the yellow Anaconda behind me.This pic was taken at the Rescue,I'm adopting quite a few snakes from them.I'm in the process of building cages for all the snakes(Rock,2-Albino Burms,Green Burm,Yellow Anaconda, and a Retic),and hope to have them home shortly.

I know she's over 12',can't get her to sit still to get an acurate measurement...I'll have to try the string method.I haven't weighed her,but I'd guess at least 75lbs?Not sure on her age either, sorry! The guy who "donated"hah!)her to the rescue, said he got her as a baby, and had her for over a year. She's been living at the rescue for at least 2 years,so she has to be at least 3 years or more.
I'll post pics of her new cage, and get weight and length in the next week or so.
THANKS!!

Nice looking snake...if you have a big enough bag to put her in they work good for weighing. Thats how i weigh my burms
Do you have any idea if that was a cb rock??
I dont know much about them but all i have heard is how nasty they are..that one doesnt look like it fits the nasty part

chainsaw Jan 22, 2005 09:44 PM

Yeah, she doesn't fit the "nasty Rock" profile!Everyone swore that she was "evil",but I proved them wrong!LOL!!I'd be upset too,if everytime someone picked me up,they grabbed me behind the head!Which is how she was handled in the past!I started working with her about 2 years ago,and she's never attempted to bite or strike...I can even handle her in shed! I'm pretty sure the guy bought her from a Rep show,so I'd have to say import.
My wife make's my snake bags,so that's not a problem.I could get a fish scale from my father. Thank's for the suggestion!

jasonmattes Jan 22, 2005 10:49 PM

I dont think any snake likes to be grabbed behind the head like that...i know my burms hate it..
If you can lift her just stand on a bathroom scale and hold the bag with her in it...
and then weigh yourself without her.
A fish scale might tear the bag...all the ones i have seen just have a big hook on them.

NICE snake!! I have a small male Rock myself, and he seems to be pretty docile, just gets mad kinda easily...but after owning him for a while, ive learned what to do and what not to do, so getting bit doesnt happen really that often.

chainsaw Jan 23, 2005 02:34 PM

Thanks Brent.I agree, how you react and treat them has alot to do with how they will act!Having worked with this girl for a couple years,as well as other "evil" critters(Retics,Scrubs,Green Trees,Nile Monitors, etc),I believe that how you approach an animal is the most important thing.
Any pics of your little monster?!

Here is the link to my webshots albums, he has his own album on there.
He isnt wanting to eat for me now, im thinking its the colder weather, so hopefully tonight i move him into our big boiler room that i have a pacman frog in, and it keeps around 80-82 constantly, so hopefully if i get him in there tonight, within a week or two he should be taking some rats.

she is a nice big girl you got there...looks fed well. Maybe too well. Very healthy looking though and it would be cool to see after the shed.
