Question about offspring/price and incubating eggs

ZeR0 Jul 05, 2003 02:20 PM

Hey, as you may or may not know, my hypo tang leo just layed her 6th clutch a week ago, and showing signs of eggs in her again already. My parents didnt want me to hatch any of the eggs as they thought it would be too much work, but they're gunna let me incubate the next clutch.
She was bred to a male very similar in appearance to her, with about 8 spots, she has 7 spots. Being a line bred morph, some of the babies would look better than the parents and some the same right? How much do hypo tangs go for nowadays? I'm guessing not much but would it be fair to sell them(at the next reptile show in my city) for around 30 dollars for babies or is that too high? If I dont sell them I'd be keeping them
If I were to incubate them at around 82 degrees how long would it take em to hatch? Is it relatively easy to hatch them or does it take a few tries?
Sorry about all the questions and thanks in advance for any replies. Later
Mac

So you want to sell the babies??? Big deal, most of us end up doing it anyway, nothing wrong with it!!! Actually, I have some normal/high yellow eggs cooking and I'm gonna be selling the babies when they are a month-two months old for about 20-25 bucks depending on whether they are high yellow or not. Petco sells hatchlings for that price, not to mention most of them aren't doing so good (so I think it's pretty reasonable). I wasn't gonna sell them at first, just give them away to nice homes, but, well, there is a reptile expo coming up in September and I'll be needing the money

It will probably take between 50-60 days for the eggs to hatch, but if you are only incubating a couple eggs, it probably isn't practical to sell them at a reptile show since you will only have a few babies to sell and it wouldn't be worth the money you spent reserving the spot. I don't really know how much the babies go for so I can't really help you out there. Incubate them, see if they hatch, and then find some nice people who want a leo and give them away or sell them for whatever price seems reasonable.

with tangerines, its hard to say what a fair price is. $30 could be either a fair price, or a really great deal. let them grow a little or sell them for the $30. like cleo said it isnt worth the $150 it costs for a booth just to sell the 2 geckos. people would think your a joke. just out of curiousity, if your parents werent gonna let you incubate the eggs, why did you breed the female in the first place?

Thanks for the help, I'll just find a good home for them or maybe keep them. About the female, I didnt breed her myself as i only have one leo, but i bought her and the guy either didnt know or didnt tell me she was gravid, so now I've just beeen taking extra care of her since she is. Thanks again for the help. later
