sick 16 year old female

spilotes87 Jan 22, 2005 06:57 PM

I dont need a leopard gecko care sheet as a response. Ive had this gecko for 16 years, and suddenly my female has lost weight, is lethargic, and looks severely dehydrated, I havent changed anything with her husbandry for the last 16 years...has anyone seen these symptoms for seemingly no reason? she is eating and drinking, which is really the confusing part....Ive made sure shes been drinking enough, because this LOOKS like a dehydrated gecko. I'm going to try and raise the humidity and give her electrolytes, but since I dont know what is wrong, I'm not sure that will work. thanks

WOW! 16 years, thats truly awesome. I hate to say it but it might just be old age kicking in. I would say she has had a truly long life though.

You should take her to the vet just to make sure it's not an underlying condition that you don't know about.

It truly is amazing that you've had her for sixteen years. Heck she's only 4 years younger than myself.

I hate to say it, but it could be old age kicking in. I hope she gets better and lives to be 20.

Good Luck with a fast and speedy recovery.

alrighty, thanks for suggestions guys. I'm sad to say that its probably not old age...my uncle has had them live past 25, I'm not sure how much longer they lived after that...but I think they got past 25. She is one of the original tremper geckos, in the good old days before morphs and the internet! LOL. I used to get price lists in the mail, on PAPER(imagine that). thanks again..

Yeah but the ones that lived to 25 were probably males. Females usually don't live as long. 16 is actually pretty old for a female. So yeah old age could be kicking in. But check her by a vet.
