Do I need to sift the playsand through a screen before I use it or wash it at all?
Or can I just put it in his enclosure?

and ready to use. It's actually for use in childrens sandboxes, so it has to be clean.

Okay. I just put it in his enclosure. Poor thing is so spazzed out from his "relocation." I had to grab him with a papertowel before he calmed down.
I am sure he will calm down in a couple of days.
P.S. I love all the pictures of your lizards they are darling.
Thanks for the help.
Where can you get it? My local HD only carries the sillicate sand that looks totally disgusting & tends to stick inbetween her scales...

I bought mine from Lowe's. Sears hardware also sells it. Most places should be starting to put out their summer lines now, but may not get the bagged items like sand until spring.
Be sure you get playsand and not the course sand for concrete and such (or you'll have to wash it yourself).

Is there something bad about ultra-fine desert sand for lizards ?
Except the high-price for sure and the fact that it sticks to everything ...

Hi there,
I would suggest that fine dune-style sand would probably not be a great medium for them for a couple of reasons, One being the obvious danger of the Collareds ingesting too much and have a resulting impaction. Another I would think is the difficulty to move in a fine sand environment. I mean, they aren't fringe-Toed Lizards, which are specially designed for that kind of life. They need rocky hillsides, with lots of gravel. Thats what they're adapted for. Now, this is just my opinion. Maybe they do fine. I personally get my own sand from nearby washes, preferably from places I know Collared Lizards live. So There's my input. Hope it helps.
