Foggers?

heffepm Jan 22, 2005 08:11 PM

Has anyone tried an ESU Reptile Ultrasonic Fogger? Supposedly it will keep the humidity up and provide enough moisture on the leaves for the anoles to drink. Anyone have any experience with this?

I heard the Habba Mist is good but that it makes a lot of noise that startles the anoles when it turns on.

I also thought of trying a waterfalls but I hear they're not great at increasing the humidity.

I have a Habba Mist that I have been using for some time now. It does make a bit of noise but the Anoles get used to it quickly. In fact, one of mine will sit on top of it while it is running.

I also have Habba misters. It bothers me more than it bothers the anoles. I tried the fogger, but it didn't work out for me. It makes a huge mess and my substrate molded. Neither of these methods raised humidity enough to make a difference. I still have to mist by hand. I covered much of the screen top with glass, and that has helped a lot.

I tried a fogger once as well. It looked really cool and worked well, but it broke after three days. In my opinion...not worth the money.

I had one of those foggers for a time. The fog looks cool and does raise the humidity substantialy, but there is a part inside the unit which has to be replaced frequently unless you use distilled water, which gets expensive.. Also, the device goes through tremendous amounts of water but can't be submerged too deeply. The result of this is that you need a relatively shallow water dish that holds a large volume of water...tough to find the space for that unless you have a very large enclosure. It also splashes alot while fogging. All in all I think they are not very practical.

You know, I could be thinking of a different unit...

I'm pretty sure that's the right one - I tried it, too, with the same observations. The splash caused my substrate to mold, too, so I decided to forget the "reptile" fogger. Now I have one of those stupid desk fogger bowls in Bowser's cage. It did almost nothing for the humidity, but gave the cage a disco look (and raised the cool side temps to a comfortable 74F), so I leave it there.
