Honduran Morph Questions......

LouEvil Jan 22, 2005 11:54 PM

OK, I have a few Honduran morph questions.....

What would result from an Albino x Hypo breeding? Doesn't that make Tangerine ALbinos?

What about an Albino x Anery breeding? Ghosts?

Lastly, what about an Albino x Tangerine breeding? I assume they would just be Tangerines that are het. for Albino, correct?

Thanks!

David, the short answers are "no" and "almost but no" and "probably but not necessarily" for the third. But you can check out the info at the link below and learn a little about the genetic principles. I've tried to provide more of the how and why than just the quick answer. Then you'll understand how to figure out the answers to these questions AND the others you'd have about the different morphs. And if you get to a point where the info at the link gets confusing, ask me here or email me and i'll clarify AND try to improve the website for future reference.

genetics info

Thanks for the info Terry. The link helped me understand the basics a bit better. I am still learning the complex art of genetics lol.

OK, I understand now that the Albinos are homozygous....and that all Honduran morphs are recessive. So, Hypomelanism in Hondurans isn't a dominant trait like it is in Boas? Very interesting.

I also assume that a Ghost comes from an Anery to a Hypo breeding, correct? And a Snow is an Albino x Anery? Of course, I mean that the correct combos of animals with the correct traits produce these morphs, not just a straght pairing of 2 parent morph specimens. Am I doing OK so far?

Thanks again Terry.

yeah, david, your other statements were correct too. Yes, "ghost" is a term we use to describe hondos (and many other species) that are anery & hypo; "snow" is a term we use to describe hondos (& others) that are amel and anery. And to complete the triad, "hybino" is a term coined to describe a hondo that is hypo and amel.

You're doing more than OK!
