First of all I am speaking from my experience, not what is the only way to do it.

My dragons are never together during their cooling periods. They are isolated and mostly just go into a deep slumber so nothing should be happening anyway. I only pair them up after they have come out of their cooling period(brumation)and have had about a month to fatten up. (and for the males to get frisky)When I pair them up I only keep them together for about an hour, less than that if they breed quickly. If nothing happens the next day I do the same. I will do this for about a week and if there is no activity I will then leave the female in there for a couple days. I always put her in his cage. If there is still no activity I give up for a week or two and start the process over. If you have another male I let them get fired up a little before hand. Put them where they can see each other but can't really fight. It gets them fired up pretty good. Take him and place him with the female. If he tries to breed her great, just make sure he doesn't take out his frustrations on her. Sometimes the other male angers him to the point of fighting with her instead of breeding her.

I never give my dragons an off day with the food. Especially if I have females that I want to lay. They need all the nutrition they can get. I feed them extra every day. I offer the males more live prey during breeding as they tend to go off feed and lose weight. The live prey stimulates their appetite more.

This is what I do after 6-8 weeks of brumation with temps getting into the high 70's (maybe 80) for 8 hours and 16 hours with temps in the 60's (occasionally my basement will get into the high 50's) They need to be in a dry and not humid environment for these temps and I give them water drops on their noses once a week.

4 females laid this last 3 weeks and 127 eggs.

Good luck
Mike
