CB Graziani pastel not eating....

dmac77 Jan 23, 2005 11:58 AM

Okay, I know that ball pythons go off food this time of the year, and that this is normal. I have a 50% het for pied female that hasn't eaten in four weeks, and she is doing fine. My problem is with my pastel male....

Okay, he's about 4 months old Graziani line pastel male. Has been eating mice and weanling rats once a week on wednesdays like clockwork since I got him. About three and a half weeks ago, he decided he was going to stop eating. I wasn't too worried about this because I had read that balls often go off food this time of year.

I have become worried since then, however, because he's losing weight. His backbone is not only noticeable by touch, but by just looking at him now. He is very sluggish in his movements and doesn't respond to touch anymore.

I took him to a vet clinic today and they gave him a deworming tratment (Despite the fact that he was clean of worms when I got him and I've cleaned his cage twice a week religiously since then... just in case) and some fluids to hydrate him. I'm going to take him to the exotic animal vet in the area tomorrow to get a more thorough workup....

ANy advice on what the problem could be would be greatly appreciated. I'm worried about this guy.... This doesn't seem to be the healthy kind of fasting that normally occurs during this season... Thanks for the advice.

Dave.

The vet visit is a good start. Ok, eating fine and then suddenly stopped eating? What changed at or about this time? Anything? Ensure his environment is setup correctly: heat, hide and water. You may want to increase the heat just a little to help his immune system if he is ill. Keep 24 hr heat as well. Constant checking up on him can cause stress. Check on him once a day at most and make it unobtrusive. Keep us posted and good luck.

The best thing you can do is to get it to a vet who is a specialist in reptiles.
