I need advice on what to do

geicogecko Jan 23, 2005 01:10 PM

My uncle bought an adult leopard gecko back in early 03, the gecko is doing fine, eating well and pooping normally. He has not kept the gecko on any sort of heat, the gecko is always at the room temp of 72. They never give it any water and it probably goes weeks without water, the tank is littered with thousands of cricket legs. The substrate has never been replaced since then.
I am not close with that part of the family and if I try to talk to them about it they only get mad. I don't know what else to do. What will happen if the gecko is left like this?

If you can, see if he will just give it to you. Looks to me like he couldn't give a rats butt about the poor thing.

See if your parents can talk to him if you can't.

My parent's have spoken to him about what the gecko needs as well and he totally ignored it. He made a big mistake for buying it for his 2 year old, the leo bit the kid on the face when she wouldn't leave it alone, it wouldn't let go. I might have to ask to buy it from him if he won't listen.

If he won't let you buy it, a "mysterious" leo disappearance seems to be in order here. Next time you visit, wear something with large zip-up pockets.

i second that!

That is funny and all, but that is what I would do.

Take it, we all know animal cops aren't going to save a gecko.

I would take it, he would not care at all, just less money to spend a month on 12 crix.

Did I sound like I was kidding? Well I wasn't. Yes, it's dishonest. And yes it's the very last resort. But in my eyes it's the lesser of 2 evils, animal cruelty being the worse evil.

In my opinion stealing it would only get you into trouble with your parents, unless they are leo fanatics like yourself. You should ask him if you could have it or if your really that concerned about the poor thing then you can offer him some money. The thing is sooner or later going to die from impaction due to not a high enough temperature to be able to digest the food properly, or parasites, or even the bacterial growth that will soon be growing on the geckos feces if it isn't pick up reguarly. Since its conditions keep getting worst the gecko's stress will make the gecko even more valnurable for parasites and that will kill it soon enough. But by stealing it you'll only make your uncle even more upset with you AND make your parents upset with you as well, but again unless your parents are leo fanatics they wouldn't probably tell your uncle about it.

But the choice is yours, good luck.
