Does any one here breed females that are smaller than their males???In size!

Gilbery007 Jan 23, 2005 01:17 PM

My female is a bit smaller than my male and i was curious if any of u guys/gals breed females that are smaller than the male???I'd appreciate a quick reply from any one because my female has been in with my male all day and i have witnessed 2 meetings both times the female nipped the male and the male the female. The second time the female linked her tail with the males, is this normal???If so how long should i leave her in there with him???Thankyou Gilbery007

Not only have I breed a smaller female to a larger male, but that is what you should do. The male need to be bigger to show is dominance over her so he can mate.

Yes that is normal. Give it a week, they might have mated already.

Normaly happens at night.

Should be withen the first 2 weeks of being together.

My female has eggs in her right now that I can see, so they must had mated in the first week.
Give it time.

So u say leave her in there for how long???2 weeks??? or will i be able to tell when they have had ***???Thankyou Gilbery007

I left mine together for a couple weeks and seperate them when i can tell the female is gravid. Continue feeding, but focus on fattening your female. Give her lots of extra calcium, as she will need it to produce eggs.

You know what? Just leave them together untill you see the eggs in her, then you know for sure.

is there any danger of leaving the female in there for good? I know some people breed with permenent colonies, but the book i read was kinda old.

He will pester her all day!I know that for sure. My female has been in with my male all day and night and they seem ok but i will leave her in there for about 2 weeks then remove her into her own tank. But all seems fine so far Thankyou for all your replies Gilbery007

"I know it for sure"
Don't say that, some males can be just as calm and nice as any female. How are you going to know what his boy is going to do.

My male and female have been in the same cage for 13 months now. Yes 13! And he only mates with her when the temp is right. All the other times, he is in his hide with her sleeping all day and never doing anything but licking her.

Try them out for a while and see if he picks on her.

Here is my guy now, he acts just like another female.
