Slugs for a BTS?

AlteredMind99 Jan 23, 2005 03:02 PM

I read that BTS can eat snails and slugs. First of all, does anyone know where to buy snails? The groery store doesn't have them, neither does the health food store, im not really sure where to look....

As far as slugs, is there a certain kind of slug that is best for my BTS? I live in maine and we have slugs EVERYWHERE. I was thinking about collecting some and keeping and feeding them before giving them to my skink, would that work?

Any input would be appreciated!!

Do you mean the aquatic apple snails? If so then they are illegal in maine unfortunately, but i could get them in NH I suppose. Or is there a land version of the Apple Snail?

I have pink tongue skinks that I have fed Japanese Trapdoor snails for years. I imagine BTS would take them. They are not quite as large as a big apple snail but may be more readily available. If you are lucky enough to have a small pond, they reproduce at a tremendous rate (Live Bearers!)I maintain them in southern Indiana and they survive the winter well. PS I freeze mine for three months before I feed them.

I find slugs and snails in my garden all the time and I feed them to my blue tongues. All you have to do is keep them for a few days to make sure they haven't been poisoned and if they're still alive and well after a few days give them to your blue tongues. They love them!
