Looking for some close encounters of the scaly kind? Reptiles: The Beautiful and the Deadly, on view January 15-May 8, 2005, features many of the world's most recognized and fearsome reptiles. Rendezvous with 20 species of live reptiles while you explore and learn about the role these vertebrates have played in their 200-million-year history. The exhibit is loaded with cool facts about reptiles and plenty of hands-on action. Examine real reptile remains, including snake skins, bones and a snapping turtle's shell. Meet face to fang with the venomous pink-spotted Gila monster from the Southwest and seven other snake species; confront real-life reptilian monsters and dragons displayed in natural habitats; and get up close to the veiled chameleon with a tongue longer than its body, the side-necked turtle, and many more creatures in this exhibit that comes to the Berkshires from Clyde Peeling's Reptiland.
