MatNga Jul 05, 2003 04:08 PM

my berdi tank is going to be a nice center piece in a family room it is going to be 6 foot long x 24 high x 24 deep.

the question is for UVB lighting 4 foot bulbs or 160 wat merc vapor bulbs ?

I would use paper towels until they are older.

I would say go with the 4 ft strip. I think that would distribute the uv more throughout the cage. Also, if this is a living room center piece, it would make it brighter. If you want it to be nicer, repti carpet would probably look better then paper towel.

i was considering a 4 foot strip in conjuction with the merk bulb but just putting cheap full spec bulbs from home depot in the strip for veiwing

Seems like the way to go. Use the mercury vapor for over the basking spot. Being that the cage is 2 feet high. The mercury vapors will through more of the beneficial UVB a lot farther then the strips. Most of my cages are set that way, just a cheap full spectrum single strip light the length of the cage and one 100 or 160 Powersun depending on the size of the cage. With my 4X2 foot cages the 100 watt throws enough heat for it. Depending on how much ventilation you have the 100 watt may also work for you. For my glass tanks that are 4 foot long I have to use the 160 Watt to get the temps up because of the full ventilated top.
