OK, POLL: GUYS/GALS: When are you taking YOUR animals out of brumation? ( ME: 1st of March!)

BlueKing Jan 23, 2005 10:50 PM

For breeding purposes of course. . . This is important to me too. That way I'll have a general Idea as when to contact some of you in time for hatchlings & pics . . .
I will be taking most of mine out 1st of March. . . (That has been routine for me for most of my life)

THANKS,

Zee

I usually go from Thanksgiving 'til Valentine's Day. We are having the coldest weather of the year this weekend, but up until now it has been a fairly warm winter. Maybe I'll postpone some for a week or two.

We put our animals down and get them up on the same dates... I didn't choose those dates for particular reasons, its just about the right amoount of time as far as I'm concerned. And see you're way down in Fla and I'm up here in iceberg New York, just goes to show that some schemes work well under a variety of conditions- or HOWEVER you want to look at it LALA LOL!!

... I think I do it that way so my feeble mind will remember things easier. Of course, there's always a cool week or two at either end of the period that screws me up anyway! It's the really warm weeks sometimes in Dec. that get me worrying.
At least we are having some wintery weather (for us) this year.

Probably around that same time. Last year I had eggs hatching in late June ! It wasnt on purpose either they just got in the mood earlier than usuall.

This past season...

My Burlington Co., NJ fem. was bred to my Monmouth Co. male on 3/16 and 3/19 had her pre-egg lay shed on 4/13 and then laid on 4/25 a total of 11 good eggs hatching on 6/17. All 11 eggs hatched as well last years clutch when she laid 8 eggs with 100% of the eggs hatching. The 2003 clutch incubated for only 42 days (@82 degrees).

I send my snakes down around the week after Thanksgiving and bring them up around St. Paddy's Day.
Best...

No really, everything is in the garage and I don't mess with the temps or anything. I'll put everything back on feed after the weekend after thanksgiving. They should all be ready and hungry by then.

Well, my ringnecks and my pine woods snake are coming out probably around March 15th(Zee, I'm hoping you'll have a female or two for me around then) depending on the weather in my area. My melanistic eastern garter snakes are probably coming out late March, as I got the female a little too late(she's still not brumating, not 'till tomorrow). And same thing with the eastern milk snakes. No kingsnakes for me brumating....

I'm another one of those Thanksgiving to Valentines day guys. That has always worked well for me as a guide line though it may vary by a couple of days on either side.

unususal baby (new color/pattern) pop out this year! AND if you do PLEASE post pics!
GOOD LUCK & many babies (snakes that is,LOL) to everyone!

Here's a pic of my most unusual find EVER: A WC golden 3.5' female - SORRY not a kingsnake (at first I thought it WAS an odd colored Prairie King - since all the corns here are reddish) but still UNIQUE. It is a cornsnake with golden blotches & grey background (not photo-shopped!) - I found her near a large wooded area by the Cape Fear river 6 miles from my house last September!
