I do believe my daughters 6 month old E. Schrencki regurged his latest meal. When we looked in yesterday he appeared to have eaten one of the 2 fuzzies offered but when we looked this morning both were back in the feed box and neither was covered with any sort of mucous. He's never been that enthusiastic of an eater and his last meal only consisted of 2 pinkies (even though he killed a large fuzzy he wouldn't eat it). I'm wondering if waiting the 2 weeks just to be sure will prove to be too long to wait to feed him again. Any thoughts on Russian feeding would be appreciated...

I know that line. His mother was a reluctant eater as a juvie. I often tempted her with smaller size meals. I definitely wouldn't push him. If the snake is in good weight I'd wait a little for sure. Also I'd stay on the small side of food items and just use more of them. That way he'll eat only as much as he wants. By the way, when she got older his mom became a much heartier eater so don't worry about feeding pinkies to a five foot snake! Check your temps and give him a good hide box.
Good luck and let me know how he's doing.

John,
Thanks for the reply... I was hoping that you would pipe in since you pipped him Temps are around 80 during the day and low-mid 70's at night (we just have a flourecent light fixture providing all light and temp variant in the cage with normal house temps at night), a good hide, several substates (aspen, paper towel, sand, climbing structures, and tile) and always a clean water dish. We'll try just several pinkies next time but it really amazes me that my Z. Longissima is half the Schrencki's diameter, younger, and will take prey items twice the size that the Schrencki refuses. If we wait 10 days to feed it will be a total of 18 days between succussfull feedings, should that be ok? Thanks again for the input.

Ron:
As long as the snake's got a decent number of meals in him, I don't see a couple or three weeks as being an issue. After a regurge, I like to give them a little break.

Yeah, the longissima are pigs. I read in Schulz that they have a very elastic gut compared to other ratsnakes. I have to laugh when I compare equally aged longissima and mandarina. But then again they are comparable to my lindheimeri (another food hog species).

Good luck,
John
