Wow Rich, it looks like my little picture has stured up the hornets nest. How is your big female and you getting along? You had stated that after the strick that you didnt know if you could trust her anymore. I was just wondering how all that is going.

` Yup Eric, you're a troublemaker! LOL I contributed, too.
` I'm just about fed up with posting pix and experience, and having the self-righteous attack.
` I'll bet the moderators get sick of it. I wonder what their opinions are about posting controversial information that stirs up the nitwits. Is there a moderator who has time to comment?
` My big female Yellow is OK, she's had a hard life, poor thing. I sold her as a neonate, and rescued her at 18 months old. She was owned by some folks who wanted to watch a snake kill small animals, of all kinds. When I found out, I told them I'd either take her back, or call the authorities. They fed her constantly, and now she is huge. Then, in 2003, she had a bad pregnancy. I ended up having to massage the dead babies out of her. It took a month to get them all out, after a six month, bad first pregnancy. She fought me, struck me without biting, and damn near broke my fingers, arms, and face. Then, I moved and she did not like that process, at all. That's when she struck my face, but didn't bite. I had a black eye for a month.
` Now, she's pretty mellow, for her. She handles OK, but she has a short fuse. You'd better know what she likes, and what she doesn't. Funny, she doesn't bite, but she'll stand up like a Cobra, with mouth open. She can deliver a slap with a coil that could break bones. She's over 13 feet, and pushing 70 pounds, estimated. I definitely don't take her to schools, with my other Anacondas! As far as trusting her, I don't let anyone near her. As for me, people have been telling me that I'm going to get myself killed for fifty years! I'd just hate to die in bed. LOL
` I guess we're going to have to quit posting pix that aren't understood. Nah. Rich Z.
`

`
` For a perspective on her size, I wear a size 50, long coat.

If thats her in the pic she's looking very healthy now. I hate hearing how people mis-treat there animals, luckily for the snake she got rescued.

Do you think she'll ever calm down properly or will she most probably be 'skitish' for the rest of her life?

dfr Jan 25, 2005 09:14 AM

` Yes, that's her, in all the pix.
` She's always been very healthy, she's just had bad luck.
` She's not really skittish. When the cage is opened, she comes right out and doesn't mind handling.
` She just seems to have her boundaries well established. If you violate one of them, her mood changes instantly. She's normally curious, and into everything. If you do something she doesn't like, she stops and just stares at you, following your every move, especially your hands. I have walked through a doorway with her and smacked her head on the wall, and she doesn't mind that any more than any other snake.
` I expect she will always be touchy, and that is OK. I try to let my critters have their own rights in their lives, within reason.
` This picture was shot on a chilly day. She's coming down to warm up, and letting her boyfriend use her for a ladder. She's not so bad.

You are such a nut. I think it is really cool that you have the expertise to get the meanest snake to become "docile". Anyways, good luck with your condas.
