Hey Randy! How are those Albinos coming?

sijae Jul 05, 2003 05:21 PM

Was there anything wrong with that one and what sex are they?

They where both terribly deformed (kinked) and dead. I'm trying to figure out what went wrong. Best guess so far is they got too hot somewhere along the way but I'm not sure when or how.

Thanks but the next "big" two egg clutch hatched out and both are normal. At least it looks like one of them is a female possible (long shot) double het so not a total wash this year and at least I now know two of my possible hets have the albino gene.

I'm so sorry to hear that! Hopefully you'll get some more next year since you've identified some real hets. What kind of incubation system are you using?

Home made from an old upright freezer. I have a fairly good thermostat (suppose there are even better) so I'm wondering if my problem was not providing enough heat gradient before she even laid. I’m planning on building a better rack AND a better incubator next year to be sure and avoid a repeat.

I have decided to go ahead and make my snake room walk in closet my incubator. It will be based on the Sutherlands incubator room. I will be using .5 inch styrofoam that Lowes has, attaching it to the walls with 2 sided tape. I will then close the cracks where the pieces meet with aluminum type tape. I will place styrofoaom on the floor with a piece of plywood over it, and some plastic type flooring. A space heater and fan will do the heating and air circulation. I figure it should cost under $200 for everything, depending on the space heater cost.

Sorry to hear that they didn't make it, Randy. A big disappointment, to be sure. At least you know you have a couple hets for next year!
