Too much humidity?

koashmar Jan 24, 2005 04:55 PM

I recently set up a standard 29g cage for my first crested gecko. It's got moss as a ground covering, various fake plants, a NON-running water fall (no pump yet, though it does have water in it), and a large piece of wood (store bought, can't remember the name of it but it's a $19 high quality chunk). He seems to really like climbing on it.

Anyway, I misted the cage last night heavily (as I'd read to do), and the moisture was gone by this morning. I then misted it again this morning at around 9am or so and there is still quite a bit of moisture on the walls. It has a VERY humid feel to it.

The gecko was shedding this morning and I checked his paws, etc..this afternoon to make sure it was all off and all looked fine. Does this sound ok? Can a cage be *too* humid? It looks like a rainforest in there...will the waterfall make it that much worse to where I shouldn't hook it up to a pump?

i usually just wait until everything looks like it's starting to dry out and then mist again. it really depends on where you are in the country and what the humidity is at the time of the year. i live in iowa and it's very dry here right now, so i could spray 1 time very throughly in the morning, and have it dry out by night time and spray again... in the summer i could spray 1 time every two days and still have high enough humidity. i just make sure to spray each gecko enough so it starts drinking.
