That's the problem, everyone b!tches AFTER THE FACT, but noone wants to step up and do anything before hand. It's only a matter of time until Pa has animals banned as well, UNLESS the NEAVB can be a deciding factor in at least giving them a permit system. At least there are some states that have AT LEAST a permit system instead of an all out ban, so they should feel lucky. A permit system and a stiffer penalty is the way to go, it weeds out the people who shouldn't keep them.....you know, like the ones who don't contribute enough to the cause in the first place. If only there were enough people fighting to keep the priviledge as there were people sitting in an internet forum whining about permits and bans. If there were, we might stand a chance. But seeing how quickly states are dropping and seeing how few names are on petitions that are going around, just shows how little people care about their or other states UNTIL it's theirs that is up on the chopping block.
Disgusted,

These challenges need to be stepped to BEFORE they are put in front of you. That's the problem. PETA and HSUS are way ahead of us. You dont think they have been working on this in back-lines? If you even think for one minute that by stepping up at the last minute ranting and raving is actually gonna help anything you are sadly mistaken. Too many people sit at home in their basements locked away from the world when it comes to being known on these issues. Now that the issue is coming more and more to head and in some states has already hit, now people from those locations are standing up to defend their rights. Just a few letters here and there aren't gonna cut it. Posting in a forum is not gonna cut it. We need to be standing on the frontline from beginning to finish. The opposing team is already there. We arent'! You can't expect to just run for home plate, you have to get up to bat first.

I am 100% for permits, and 100% against bans...at this rate although I hate to say it..I'd rather see a ban instead of no regulations whatsoever...for everyone's sake, especially the animals. There are always legal loopholes, red tape, and hoops to jump through with situations like this, for those of us who have the impetus to try and keep our animals. Its sad that we have to do this, because irresponsible people made everyone look bad, but it does boil down to us again, because YES, we DIDNT go up to bat for our cause when we should have, or tried hard enough. When people say silly things like "no regulations, all in favor of herp anarchy sign here!", that just makes the herp community look even worse. Dont bother, politicians dont care unless you write them letters, call them on the phone, and show up at their offices. even then, they probably still wont care, even if you do have something worthwhile to say. Thats the system, and it wont change. get used to it, and apply for your permit. Oh yeah, and before crap like this happens, lobby for it.
