Albino Burmese adult changed colors... ???

homeslice Jul 05, 2003 05:55 PM

I posted this about an hour ago in the Pythons forum thenby searching the forums i realized there was a forum specifically for Burmese, so i posted here too. Sorry about that

I have 2 snakes. A 14 ft Albino Burmese Python and a 6 ft Albino Burmese.
I left the house and the snakes alone from July 3rd at around 10pm til July 5th at around 2pm. I have a large wooden cage for both snakes and i have an 80 watt red flood light bulb at the top of them which is located about 3 ft above the base of the cage and the snakes. I left the light on for the 3 days thinking it might be too cold overnite and to be better safe than sorry. So i come back from the vacation and go to the snake cage and the big python seems to have changed colors? Instead of her bright yellow and white striped scales it appears to be much more pastelle, maybe even to the point that its hard to tell shes not one solid color. It looks like some of the yellow scales have turned much more like white or blended together with the white. Also her eyes are glossed over, kind of how it looks before she sheds, but not all the way to that extent. There doesn't seem to be any damage or anything. She just shed about 5 weeks ago. I feed her every 3 weeks about a 5-6 lb rabbit and other than that shes extremely friendly and healthy.
The little snake was also in the cage with the big one, and she hasnt changed colors at all.
Does anyone have any idea why my snake seems to have changed colors?

Im thinking now that she is going to shed again? She shed about 5 weeks ago but today her eyes look alot more cloudy than yesterday. Could having the red light on the snake have done this to her? Its an 80 watt red flood light.

The albinos usually become a pastel orange. And shedding about every 5 or 6 weeks is not uncommon when being fed a good amount. The light, or lack of light could do nothing to change her color other than to possibly be slightly more "vibrant" when warmer.

Ok thanks alot. She seems to be incredibly more irritated when i touch her. Like just breatheing on her makes her hiss bad and even jump away from me.
