bloodboy128 Jan 25, 2005 12:01 AM

Ok me and my bro figured we stick tomice til his 32" ball hits the 3' mark. for a 400 gram male ball python is 2 large mice a week good then switching to a small rat every 2 weeks? we figured its a good intake if he gets about 1/5 his body weight every 2 weeks due to he is already a year old...Whats everyone elses 2 cents...
thanks,
Jake

in my experience it all depends on the snake. what you describe would be sufficient for your snake. My recommendation would be get it to rats if you want the snake to put on some weight quicker for breeding purposes if that's what you want it for. If the snake is going to be a pet stay on mice as long as you want as long as you give enough of them. I have some 300 gm females and a couple of my males that were started on weaned rats at 250 gm and started taking small rats at the 400 mark. these will be future breeders and the quicker they grow the quicker they breed. I shoot for 1.5 yrs on my males and 2.5 yrs on my females to be breeding size. Just my opinion and there are people with more exp than me when it comes to ball pythons.

I've only had experience with my two balls and a recently adopted 30 inch burm. The balls were eating small rats by the time they were that size with no problem, and the new burm takes em now.
