SOS. I need help

ferksu Jan 25, 2005 12:07 AM

I have had my turtle (Miro) for a year and have had numerous problems because I have been learning. I feel bad for the poor little thing. Anyway I noticed today that the turtle seems to have a swollen cheek or something like that. The rest of the turtle looks just fine. Does anybody know what could be the cause of this.

Yes, your turtle has an ear abcess. It is caused by poor water conditions. He needs to see a vet, your turtle will need minor surgery to open up his ear and have the infection drained out. If you don't treat it, his ear will burst and the infection will probably kill him.

Totally agree. Shortly after getting one of my turtles
6 years ago I had the same problem. My vet lanced it and
I had to give special care for several weeks until it closed
up on its own. Thank goodness I have not had the problem
since and now I have 4 aquatic turtles.

Please see your vet.

To add to what has been said these abscesses can be extremely painful to the turtle so please do not delay in getting it the treatment that it needs. It is quick procedure.
