Peruvian Boas will reach seven feet if not more. Obviously larger than Colombians. While they are prettier are NOT recommended for a first boa. They are very difficult ot keep PROPERLY, they are not imperator but a delicate constrictor, and must be carefully fed and maintained to ensure good health.
They are prettier but their larger size and difficulty to keep, makes them undesireable for someones first Boa constrictor ssp.

At one time, I had one of the most impressive collections of Peruvians in the country and worked with them exclusively for 8ys. They are actually very hardy animals and are no harder to keep than Columbians. The key to them is; " Do not cool them. " That really applies to all of Boa Constrictors, especially Peruvians. They can get R.I. very quickly if you keep them to cool. I always recommend a cool spot in the mid to high 70s with a hot spot ALWAYS available. As far as size; " There is no difference in the size that Columbians get verses Peruvians or Surinames or Guyanas Ect.Ect. It depends on how much you feed them and if you feed the crap out of them, it will shorten their lifespan. For the record, the largest boas that I have ever seen, have been " big overfed Columbians " and I have had and have seen alot of Big Boas. If your husbandry is not right, you can kill a Columbian as quick as a Peruvian and visa-versa. Educate yourself on how to properly take care of your boas and they will live hardy and healthy lifes. To say that; " Peruvians are harder to keep than Columbians or Surinames or any other B.C.C. or B.C.I. is folklore. " When it comes to breeding however, Columbians are much more easier bred than the B.C.C. That can be another topic.......GOD BLESS......Johnson Herp

Get what you like and take care of it. I do not recommend using anything but news paper for substrate. Give it a cool spot in the high 70s with a constant hot spot and spray it in the mornings and do not over feed it. Pretty simple.......Good Luck ....GOD BLESS.......Johnson Herp
