do it yourself fecal exams

shandar5 Jan 26, 2005 08:40 AM

Does anyone do their own fecals? I am looking for a website or reference photos that will show comparisons of healthy vs. infected fecal samples of the various reptile parasites. Anyone with a trinocular hooked to a digital camera? Do you use the brightfield technique? Also interested in knowing who does this as maybe we all can compare notes occasionally.

many thanks,
Darryl.

I've been doing fecal exams for a little over a year now. A very nice vet helped me get started and showed me how to do a fecal float and what to look for. I was suprised at how easy it was to do. Wish I would've started doing them when I started rescuing reptiles - would've saved us a bunch!

The majority of what I see is coccidia and pinworms. Wish I had the fancy set up to photograph what I see in the scope though. That would be awesome! Feel free to ask me questions anytime. I can't guarantee that I'll have the answer, but I may know where to find it.

Hey Veronica,
you can take pics with any digital camera through one of the oculars just make sure you use that particular ocular to focus on the ova, worm and etc.
