My theory on getting rich from Ball Pythons.

skyfire_1 Jan 26, 2005 11:03 AM

There is so much breeding going on to get the different possible morphs, which I think is really cool. (I have my favorites) But one day as all the different morphs get more and more mainstream and in abundance that every one will have forgotten to breed the Normal Balls and these will be become the most expensive and sought after Balls. And that's when I am going to make a fortune.

I know what you mean... Funny thing is, there are very few of the morphs that I think look as good as the normal... Most of them just seem kind of washed out.

While you are correct that prices on all the morphs will fall, it is their "commonness" that will bring the price down. This doesn't mean that normals will become uncommon, just that the rarer morphs will become more common. Those are two very different things. The morphs will never be as common as normals. (except for possibly the codominants).

Breed an albino to a normal and you get 1/2 normal looking babies. How about a pastel to a normal? Why would the normals or hets. be worth more than albinos or pastels in these cases? There aren't fewer of them. Do you think people will stop breeding pastels to normals in the future, if the price on pastels comes down? Not a chance! Sorry, but that theory make no sense.--Not to mention that there is still a wild population, and assuming their habitat isn't destroyed, they will be available for a long time. (since the demand for them will fall as breeding balls becomes more common, and the collecting pressures on them will also fall which will increase their numbers in the wild long before your captive normals ever become "rare".) And if the price of normals goes way up, I guarantee you that it will be much more worth it to import them than it is today, and they import a lot of them today!

Keep dreaming though!

>>Breed an albino to a normal and you get 1/2 normal looking babies.

You get all normal looking babies that are 100% het albino.

I meant that by breeding an albino to a het., you still get so many normal looking babies that normals will never become rare, thus they won't ever become expensive, or more expensive than morphs.

I agree with rodney, Normal ball pythons will always be around, Just look how many were imported into the united stated alone. This happens every year. As was stated when you breed a PASTEL to a NORMAL FEMALE half the babies are NORMAL and that is just a average. When You breed the Albino male to a NORMAL FEMALE all the babies will be NORMAL 100% het for Albino...But still normal. However the morph will become more common we still need Normal ball pythons and we will still need NEW BLOOD(Newly Imported babies) Because you cannot keep crossing and crossing and crossing or you will have problems just as in Corn snakes. That is JUST MY OPINION ON normals becoming the most expensive ball in the business. It ain't gonna happen. Thanks for reading, DAVID

This is a pretty retarded post...and I think all of your replies to it pretty much spell it out. You will get just about as many normals (homozygous) while breeding out morphs as you will visual morphs. That said, you will also get plenty of 100% normals while breeding hets....so there will never be a shortage of "normals" and you will never get rich with em....even if we were to stop importing them tomorrow...but hey, have fun with the hobby, but make your paycheck elsewhere (unless your 'hobby' brings in serious cash!)
