I have been researching this very subject for the last 5 yrs. plus..... However, mine focused on Calcium with Vit. D3 powder, versus the UVB Bulbs. I have mostly gone without UVB bulbs and have utilized Rep-Cal w/ Vit. D3 powder (Pink label).
I have had great success in both uros, beardies, collards, and of course numerous pet tegus. :0). I have not witnessed any MBD (Metabolic Bone Disease) whatsoever. Color variances also have been nonexistant. I have also posed this question to the San Diego zoo herpatologists dealing with tegus, though have not
received a response yet..........it has not been long though.
The one aspect with the San Diego, they are able to utilize the Calf. sunshine. :0) Here in Mich., we only have access in the summer. :0)
