i have a male fowlers toad and i just noticed that his groin is red... what could this be??? Red Leg?? is there something i should do for him? his water is changed regularly and he has gravel, dirt, and moss in his tank

A lot of native toads have redness in the groin. I know bufo americanus does for sure. If your toad never displayed this before, it may be because he hasn't been in hibernation (something to consider when keeping North American herps in captivity) and his internal clock is telling him that spring is here. I have noticed red groins in a lot of wild caught toads and have been able to sex them this way.
