Getting a Dumerils Boa to eat...

lonegreywolf20 Jan 26, 2005 04:06 PM

I adopted a Dumerils Boa back in December, right before Christmas. Some of you may remember me posting about it. I also adopted a Ball Python from person.

Since then I have gotten the Ball to eat, but I just can't seem to get the Dumerils to eat. I have tried, prekilled, frozen thawed and live and nothing works. She is in a 20 long enclosure with a basking side and cooling side. She has a place to hide as well as Aspen to burrow in. She just doesn't seem interested in food at all. I have fed her all times during the day and she just goes about her business, which isn't eating.

Not sure what else to do. She is healthy otherwise and the previous owner says she was eating up until I adopted her. Any ideas?

Wait until early night...and it is hidden in the aspen. It should poke its head out. Walk the prekilled mouse by it a couple of times...should take it. Try exposing the brain and guts if all else fails! best of luck!

Try leaving a F/T mouse in the cage over nite. I've had may problem feeders and most have taken to this. In fact, i hve a 3yo female that will only take overnite F/t. Trust me, give it a try and let me know the results.

I have two Dumeril's. The male thinks he is a boa constrictor and eats every time I offer food. The female is finicky. She won't eat f/t even if I leave it overnight. She only eats live. She's gone 6 weeks without eating before she showed any interest in eating. Dums have a slow metabolism, so be patient. Mine seem to love live rat pups if you can find them.
