*Cleaning the SHELFliner with Antibiotic?

photojoe Jan 26, 2005 04:56 PM

I think I had read that some of you that use shelf liner, simply wipe it up and then spray it with some sort of safe cleaner and wipe that up and you are done?

Am I remembering correctly, and if so, what can I use that will help clean it and is safe?

Thanks in advance

You can use chlorhexidine to safely clean you're cage. Its effective against bacteria, mold, fungus, and many viruses. This is what the vets use to clean cages, countertops and some tools. This is the same stuff as "virosan". It comes as a concentrate and one ounce makes a gallon of non-toxic cage cleaner when mixed with water. If you'd like to try some, just shoot me an E-mail - Chris@Geckospot.com

I buy the generic form of Nolvasan from www.vetamerica.com. for 19.99 a gallon. It's the cheapest price I have found for the stuff. If you go with the name brand Nolvasan or Virosan you'll spend as much as $45-$80 a gallon for the name brands.

1. First I use a Paper towel to pick up the feces
2. Then I wipe down the area with a Chlorox bleach wipe
3. I let it sit for 30-60 seconds
4. Lastly I spray Natures choice or water on the soiled spot and wipe it up with another paper towel.

It gets a little expensive but I feel really good that I am doing right by my dragons.

Hey Randy the Trans is doing very well. He seems 100% normal. He's not one of my young giants, but young and promising. I just got the scale out, and got a weight of 372 which is a 26 gram gain from his last weigh in. I did not have my tape measure handy, but I'd be safe saying he's 19 in already. He has very nice coloring too. Should be interesting to work with. My camera crapped out so I'm a bit backed up on getting my web site up to date with my new purchased and heldback breeders, expected clutches/pairings, and new pics of my old breeders.I kinda got sidetracked, and been busy procreating a little human, and baby dragons this winter I'm just a tad behind schedule as my first clutch of pastel X orange het was a total failure. All 24 eggs infertile which is odd as from mating she was right on schedule with laying. I did happen to get a small clutch from Myah my redxred crossed with a outstanding orange Redflame/sandfire X orange-red/snow, and I bred one other pair I had not plained to breed, but they should be pretty nicely colored and large offspring. So for my pairings I'm a week off schedule, but for my web work a bit behind.. other then that things are a bit bust, hectic, but overall rather swell Gonna be a bust year that is for sure.. This is the year of the unplanned breedings LOL.. you know what they say "we plan and God Laughs"

How is yours doing? any breeding/eggs so far? Can't wait to see your this season. Good luck

Wow Sounds like your Translucent had a good start to life and is doing very well. I saw the pic in the photo gallery and he looks awesome. Sounds like he has some good size on him too. I have several translucents (2 hets and 1 male, one female and 3 female pure translucents). The two biggest females are not even as big as your guy. Unfortunately one of them is already proven by the last owner. She was in brumation when I received her but because I wanted to put some more size on her I took her out of brumation. So far she has put on about 30 grams but I would like to put a minimum of 100 grams on her before I breed her. It is funny because when I take her out to hold her she eyes all the young holdback males and they go crazy. She is ready to breed now but I told her not until you put some good size on....lol

Bummer about your camera and Hey making babies is a good reason to get behind in your hobbies. Yeah I am getting ready to add some pages to my website so hopefully I don't ruin it.

Matt you know that the dragons you want to breed never breed and the dragons you don't want to breed always breed it is the nature of the beast. It happened to me last season. Sorry to hear about the infertile eggs but it happened to me too with a Hypopastel cross but I got 4 to hatch out of 24. First time mom of course...lol

As far as my breedings go I only have a few adults awake right now but this weekend the rest will be woken up. I am debating whether to put some of my older holdbacks down for a short brumation because many of them are beginning to do it on their own. It is a little late but we will see.

I am real interested to see how your stuff turns out too. Oh yeah guess what? I am 95% sure my Adult male Hypopastel het is a smoothie. I have always thought he was for lack of a better word smooth but now people are calling these guys a morph. Don't want to jump the gun but we will see.

I still would like to get you on the phone to just discuss stuff.

Good Luck
-Randy
