Bubbles...please help!

red_eyed_magalie Jul 05, 2003 08:56 PM

My Red Tail (a little over 5 feet) doesn't seem to be his normal self. He usually roams the cage and is just up and active. For the past couple of weeks he just sits in the corner of the cage and doesn't move at all. He hasn't has a bowel movement for awhile and I wasn't sure if it was because he ate so much in his last feeding. 3 VERY large rats....he normally does two and since the female didn't want it we offered it to him and he took it...I took him out today to let him roam around in the grass in the yard (see if some excercise would assist with bowel movements & make him a lil happier). Well he started making bubbles...they were coming out of his mouth and some out of his nostrils. He shed (last time) with no problem. He did not want to eat when we offered him food a week ago. The 3 rats were 5/30. I know this isn't normal? Please tell me what I need to do...(at home) there are no vets in my area that treats herps. I believe the nearest place would be about 2 hours away. Can anyone please help me with my "baby"...he's 2 years old...Just as friendly as can be..my daughter holds him and she is terrified of snakes (9 yrs)

He has a respiratory infection. Usually this is due to prolonged exposure to temperatures that are too low. You need to warm him up immediately and get him to a vet for evaluation and very likely antibiotics. I'd normally say give a temperature increase a couple of days to work before, but it sounds like he may have had the infection for a while.

You need to get him warmer asap. Also, check your humidity levels - boas have been known to get ri's from low humidity as well. You need to find a vet that will treat herps - and he/she will probably give you a round of Baytril shots for your baby. Good luck!
