Hey Chris, great to hear from the mayor of Mcmartinville! That fellow was flipped near the Guadelupe river in southern Calhoun co. I also found a neonate in late August under a pile of shingles @ the same locale. I had never seen an intergrade in my neck of the woods(Corpus), but I had no doubt as to his Holbrooki influence. We get a lot of Splendida here from the Islands ( mustang and Padre) to Mathis, Refugio, and Goliad. Flipped an abundance of five lined skinks, anoles and Texas brown snakes, as well as two broad-banded water snakes and a very small rough green snake. All in all it was an absolutely terrific day.

I've found DOR further upstream (Guadalupe County) which looked like intergrades to me (though the hoity-toity folk in the DFW Herp Society tell me there are no intergrades there)--anterior half of the bellies was pure yellow. A neonate I picked up on a snake call (in someone's kitchen) in Bexar County was more of a splendida type--its belly was pure slate gray with a salmon anal plate.

I never woulda thunk it but the map says so and it is definitely different than the local splendidas. What would it take to satisfy the "know it alls"?

You have to show them your prime herping spots so they can exploit them without having to do any research on their own.

Nah... Ive found that the non-herpers of herping crews often find the best stuff. its more like murphy's law, location, and skill! we had about 11 people walk past a 5' Bothrops asper in April, and the kid who went with us, who was the only non herper, was the one who spotted it, along with a mess of other cool things that week... Otherwise I'd tend to agree with you! LOL!

Nice king, you dont see those often.

Yeah, I just seem to be drawn to these places....I was really pleased to find this guy as I've wanted to go fetch a speck from northeast Texas where my daughter went to school but there never was enough time. Thanks
