Rat snake turning pinkish?

Tugi Jan 27, 2005 01:16 AM

My leucistic texas ratsnake seems to be turning a pinkish color. Could this be a reaction to aspen shavings? He'll lay in his dish and then come out and get the shavings wet and lay in them. Should i switch to a reptile carpet? Also, his eyes seemed really grey like he was going to shed, but then tonight they didn't seem grey at all but there was no shed skin. What could be going on?

I find with most snakes that after the eyes clear they will shed within 2 days. Keep misting until he sheds.

Keep in mind, length of shed is not an accurate representation of your snake's length. Unlike fish, where they have individual scales, a reptile's scales are actually tight folds of skin. When the snake sheds, the skin unfolds, making the shed skin longer than the snake really is.
