40 gallon for a baby

kelnich Jan 27, 2005 10:54 AM

Hi,
I, the big bozo never thought to ask how old my baby was when I bought him. But he is about 3 inches snout to vent. My question is can I put him in a 40g long? Or is that too big for him right now? I currently have him in a 20g long.
Another thing is I didn't know that there were different species of collareds so I didn't ask what he was. He turns really blue in the morning before he warms up but when he warms up he is a pale grey with orange stripes. I do plan on posting pictures once my husband finds the digital camera. But any ideas?

Nice to have you, and your little friend .

The 20 gallon seems fine right now for such a little guy.

** But the 40 will be AWESOME in a couple months, he will love it.

As far as his color thats a tough one, could be an aquaflame ,which is just a term used to speak of their bright colors, and location. But they are C. collaris just the same.

The orange is just a kid thing, it will fade in the months to come.
They have orange strips in the wild to protect them from big males who may harm them.
The females get Orange when they are gravid (with eggs) so it actually fools the male into NOT harming the youngster, when he see the orange.

Would love to see your baby, we love pics her, LOL
