I highly recommend against this. Snakes will frequently and thoroughly foul their water. You want a set up where the water can be easily changed and the water bowl cleaned. Even a good filter will not be adequate. You should also keep in mind that Water snakes reach a good size and you want an enclosure that is more flexible and adaptable. Typically speaking reptiles live healthier lives in simpler terraria. Your plan can be done but it will require a huge amount of space, equipment, monetary investment, construction time, and regular maintenance.

I am interested in other thoughts from other keepers as well.

rhallman is correct. Water snakes often choose to soak for extended periods in their water and (not being outside where they can bask in full sun)deveope body rot rather easily.

Keep a small water bowl in the tank and leave space for a larger bowl that can be intrduced for "fishing'. Be sure to treat any water going into the snakes habitat for Chlorine and other chemicals that can harm your anumal. Make sure that your water is not treated with Fluoride as that can also be of possible harm.

Withwater snakes a full spectrum Fluorescnt light is advisable.
