Question re: female crested

princesskain Jan 28, 2005 12:49 AM

I aquired a beautiful gold crested female this week. She was previously housed with 3 males and layed her first clutch about 10 days ago. Given that she was housed with these males until she came to me 2 days ago, what is the likelihood that I should have to watch for new eggs in the near future? Is it very unlikely that she mated again so soon after laying them? I'm just wondering what I'm up against, as this is my first female crested gecko. I would est her age to be about 9months. Her weight is great, and her activity level is above normal. Thanks in advance!

Its entirely possible that she lays another set or two of fertile eggs from her previous mating. Cresteds do retain sperm but not to the degree of some other Herps. I would certainly watch for additional eggs. (Not too mention continue to keep her calc levels up)

i agree, wait for 1-2 more clutches, and definately watch her calcium intake. i personally like to mix calcium in with some peach baby food and let them lick it off the syringe to make sure my females are getting plenty of calcium.
