Yes, it's possible. It's also possible it could have been transmitted in other ways -- by your handling of the animals or cleaning of their cages. It's even possible the boa gave the disease to the python. It affects boas more slowly, and they can even be completely asymptomatic carriers. Best of luck.
Mites are one of the more likely ways IBD is transmitted. Out of curiousity, did you have the snake tested for IBD after it died?
Sorry to hear of the loss and I hope the best for the Salmon.

What's a pygmy burmese python? I've never heard of a snake like that.
Yes according to my veterian IBD can be transmitted through mites also if you don't wash your hands well after handling a snake with IBD you can transmit it that way also. Good luck with you other snake.
From what ive heard and read of this disease it is an airborn virus. Therefore not only can it be transmitted through contact with the snake and then not washing your hands throughly and your couches and floor/rugs that you have had the snake on, but it can be transmitted through there air also... Its a pretty scary thing to be associated with... And everyone who i have heard of having IBD has loss all or close to all the Boas/pythons... Im so sorry to hear about your loss of the Burm, but i would take care and get your Boa to a vet and out of contact with anything that could infect him.... I dont mean to scare you, but this is a serious thing and i wish you the best of luck with you boa...hope it all works out well..
Sincerely,
Rose
