Sheding problem. Help

ktulu654 Jan 28, 2005 11:57 AM

My female leo shed last night but failed to remove all of the skin from her toes. I tried the warm water soak, but it turns out she is pretrified of water and can jump suprisingly high. when i tried to use a q-tip with warm water to try to atleast moisten the skin she attacked it. Does anyone have any other ideas? she has a moist hide and she used it to remove most of the skin but she doesnt seem to care about the rest. Any help would be great.

Thanks

>she is pretrified of water and can jump suprisingly high.

LMAO!!!!! Yep. High. Surprising. LOL. ok, what I do is sit them on my knee/thigh (I'm sitting down) with a paper towel under them, and squirt their feet with a spray bottle of water. Ok, they hate this too, but the paper towel gets wet too, then if you can just get her to stay hanging out on your knee on the damp paper towel it will soften the skin. Then you can use the damp paper towel to rub her toes (gently!) top and bottom. And you definitely need to get it off her toes. And (for the future) the sooner after she sheds that you get to it, the easier it will come off, so never delay (I'm not saying you delayed! I just thought I'd toss in that extra advice).

She attacked the q-tip! LMAO again! You must post more often.

And yeah, I've never had any luck with q-tips either. I can poke them with a q-tip all day long and not remove one bit of shed.

one, get a dropper and put one drop of mineral oil on each affected toe. Let it soak in for a minute, then rub gently with a fingernail.
two, I use a gladware or equivalent, wet a paper towel and put it flat in the bottom of the container. Zap it (WITHOUT the gecko) in the microwave just enough to get it warm, but not hot to the touch. Put the gecko in the container and snap on a lid w/small holes quickly. Let the steamy bath do its magic in a warm spot for about 10 minutes, then take the skin off.
I have a dry house, and this always works for me. either one, or together.

she has refused to leave her moist hidebox since i posted last so i am going to let her try to take care of the problem. hopefully she will take care of it and if now she should be well hydrated to help remove the skin in the morning. so here is to hoping everything is going to work itself out.

also thanks for all the replys, if she doesnt take care of it i will try one of the ideas suggested.

Thanks again
