wheezy bp

krystal87 Jul 05, 2003 11:10 PM

I just rescued a 8 year old ball python that is about 4 1'2 feet long and very skinny. His shed was terrible, just flaking off- i soaked him and got most of it off of him. Since february he had only been fed twice. I notice whenever he gets excited and starts breathing harder he wheezes really loud. I don't know whether this is something that will pass or if it is- or could be- something that might turn out to be serious. He's such a sweetheart, I want his suffering to be over and him start a new happier life, any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Is it a wheeze or a hissing sound?

It is a hiss! He wants to be left alone.

actually i took him to a reptile specialist at a vets office and he has a respiratory infection and is on antibiotics... i told you it was a wheeze. i think i know the difference between a hiss and a wheeze, i'm not an amateur to that extent.. but thanx anyways, i'm just glad someone was trying to help

You said he did it when you picked it up. If he was in a cage would be different. Mine hiss when the do not want to be bothered. Did you ask the vet how you sex a snake to see if they know anything about snakes? Just because they are vets do not mean a thing. Just a thought.
