Housing together?

CaptainHook2 Jan 28, 2005 07:00 PM

I usually lurk on the Burm forum so I'm new here. I picked up a pair of balls from a guy who claimed a woman who lived with him left them at his house when she moved out. He stated they have lived together all their life. They are each just over 3 feet. I took them home and put them in separate 10 gallon aquariums until my burm cage was finished. I moved jumbo in and the balls took up residence in his old cage. At the start of the cold weather 3 months ago all 3 snakes quit eating. The vet suggested removing/blocking the hides (to see if they would start eating) as the temps in the hides were colder than recommended. The cage they are in is 3'long, 30 inches high and 15 inches back. I'm thinking of making a shorter cage for them and need to know if it's OK for them to share a cage or should balls be kept separate same as burms. In the same cage they stay on each other all the time. Always lay together and always hide together. At night they come out but no other time. The burm started eating when I closed off his hide but the balls still won't eat. Any inputs would be greatly appreciated.

Thanx!

I think most people keep them seperate except during breeding, but I have a pair that have lived together all there lives also and they are about 13 years old. The only time I seperate them is to feed. Have never had any trouble with them. They stop eating in the fall, sometimes as early as September, and start back up in February or march. The female actually goes anywhere from 5 to 8 months out of the year without eating with no ill effects. Since I didn't get into these for breeding purposes, I haven't concerned myself much with weather or not they hook up every year, but in general they will every other year. They just seem to know what to do and when to do it, and I let em choose as they please.
