one night?!

viperbitex Jan 28, 2005 07:02 PM

Hello. I put my 2 blues in together about 2 weeks ago, and FINALY the male began making moves on my female. I didn't stick around for long intervals, because I didn't want to freak them out, but I checked at one point and he was deffinately "in the right possition" and the last time I checked, she was actually on her back and he was on top (which I thought was weird, but they weren't hurting each other). That was 3 nights ago, and they have not showed and sexual interest in each other since then. They cuddle together, but that is it. Is one night of passion enough?? The female went threw brunation on her own, and the male didn't. It has been almost 2 weeks since I cleaned their cage and I REALLY want to, but I don't want to scare them out of being in the mood, by cleaning until I'm pretty sure that she is gravid. My male is a monster and is completely unhandelable, but she has always been a sweet heart. When they sleep, they are dead to the world, so would it be a better idea to clean the cage while they are asleep so they don't see me?? Any advise is appreciated!! Thanx

Heya,
I cant help you on the breeding issues, but I would advise you against trying to clean it while they are asleep. Tegus (my tegu, certainly) hate being disturbed while they are asleep, and he will go so far as to bite anything that touches him while hes napping - and will definitely make moody gestures at me if I start messing with his enclosure while hes in his hides. If you male is already badly-disposed towards you, I think it may even be pretty dangerous to try and do this while he is asleep, as he may react very badly (this is the 4' male right?).

Yeah, he's big and mean. When he is sleeping, he is like a rock. Of course when I clean his cage he is out running around, but in the morning I go in when he is asleep to change their water and he hasn't woken up yet (fingures crossed I didn't just jinx myself). I've talked to a few people I know from different shops and experience levels and I think I'm just going to leave it for another week or two, but spot clean the bedding, you know, take out the poop. FUN!!
