I bought two dragons from a breeder last july. Right when I got her I thought she was a little weird. She would put her head down in the sand, and sleep standing up, or squished in between the glass and the cage sideways. She was always very uncordinated. The male soon outgrew the female (sick one), so I separated them thinking that the male was stressing her out and or eating all the food. She since has not put much weight since I got her at all. I give her calcium and vitamins, and provide uvb and a hotspot of 105 or so.
She has a hard time catching crickets. In fact she might eat like 2 and then lose interest unless I dangel them in front of her face. Her poop is solid, but somtimes there is a lot of liquid around it as well. She is so uncordinated she can not even crawl off my hand into the cage without faling down. About 30% of the time she is regular and alert looking, head up etc. the other 70% she is laying down with her head on the ground and eyes closed. In fact she almost ALWAYS has one eye closed. Sometimes i will come home and she will be in the colder spot of her cage, just laying there lifeless, and feels very cold when I go and put her under her warmer side. the funny thing is she usually livens up after I move her under the heat, and it brings out a better color in her too. She looks pretty healthy, not dehydrated, somewhat plump just VERY small for her age.
The local vet charges 35$ for a fecal exam and I am a poor college student. I think I am going to get my pre-med friend to take a look at her poop under the microscope though. I am not sure if it is coccidia though, it seems more neurological.
Any guesses or info ???
Thanks for all your help.
