Mouth Rot....(Long)

Mojo0416 Jan 28, 2005 08:31 PM

I am new to this board as well as being a new RTB owner. I bought Mojo about 3 weeks ago. He is 6 feet long and 5 years old. He has mouth rot that I have been treating with Listerine and Clindamycin that I got from the vet. Is there anything else that I can do to treat him? I have been treating him for the past 7-8 days. He has lost some weight but not to bad. The guy at the pet store here said that I should not worry about the weight loss because they often go 1-2 months without eating in the wild. He is at least drinking water and soaking in water. The rasping sounds in his throat have gotten better in the past 2-3 days but are still present at times. His gums are alot better than they were 4-5 days ago. He still cannot close his mouth all the way though. I am keeping his cage temperature at 95-100 degrees on one end and 90-95 degrees at the other end like the guy at the pet store said to do. Is there anything else I can do to heal him up?? Any suggestions? Thank you.

I don't know about treating the mouth rot but those temps seem to high to me, more like 90 on the hot side and 80 on the cool. good luck with him though

Weel your temps may be a problem. I have offered sick boas a basking spot of 95-100 but they do need to thermo regulate themselves so I would offer a cooler area in the low to mid 80's where they can cool off. 100 can be too hot. I have used baytril injections for RI's and mouth rot in the past and they cleared with in days of the first injections. It may take time for the mouth to heal depending on how bad the rot is.

Where can I get Baytril? How often do I give it and how much?

You would have to get it from a vet and I give them 1 injection every day for 14 days
