At what age do they start calling?

vamppire Jan 29, 2005 12:31 AM

I have a leucomelas frog I purchased in late november who was estimated at 1-3 months old at the time. Just now, I could swear I heard him calling for the first time. I was watching TV at the time, but the sound I heard did not match the show. I heard it 3 times in a row. I found a .WAV of a leuc call and it sounded JUST like what I heard.

I thought he would be too young to call - is it not a mating thing, and he is too young to be mating? Do they call any other time?

Let me know what you think. Thanks!

They could definitely be calling now, if one is 6 months old. It shouldn't be long before you hear it again (usually morning and late afternoon),as mine call off and on all day, everyday!

Just don't be surprised if you have to wait another 6 months for their first clutch, though! It will make you crazy to hear the male call incessantly, but no eggs!

Unfortunately his "friend" (don't know if it was male or female) died unexpectedly a few weeks ago, unknown causes. So he's king of his bachelor pad right now, lol. I may get him a new buddy in a couple months.
