hibernation

derd83 Jan 29, 2005 08:41 AM

hi!

about two months ago i bought two leos, and one of the things the guy that sold them to me told me was that they don't hibernate... yet since about the turn of the year, they've been doing nothing but sleeping in their cave box, have i been fed the wrong info or is this something i need to start worrying about?

thanks!

Nope the person who sold you your leos was correct, they do not hibernate. Your probably watching them whenever the light is on or during the day. Since they are nocturnal they sleep whenever light is on or whenever it is daylight. They are probably just getting more comfortable where they are and sleeping more.

They don't hibernate but they do BRUMATE. These are two totally different things. Right now I wouldn't worry unless they start losing alot of weight. You might want to up the temps a little. What are your temps right now?

temps are 80F during the day and 65-70F when i switch out the lights

Its called brumating they are sensing the change in temp outside and slowing down they will eat once and awhile and come out rarely, once it starts to warm up outside they will be more active.
