snake not pooping

the nerve Jul 06, 2003 12:40 AM

I got my snake about 3 weeks ago and shes eaten 1 pinky and 2 fuzzies since I got her. However, she hasn't pooped. Temps are 85-90 on the warm side and 75-80 on the cool. She has water and two hides, and she's getting a reasonable amount of excercise. What should I do?

My experience is more limited than some of the folks on this forum but I wouldn't necessarily worry yet. I've had several snakes go 3 weeks without pooping. They got around to it later. Partly its a function of how much they have eaten recently. Then, there is the issue of adapting to a new situation. If the snake still exhibits normal activity, then I don't worry.

It doesn't appear as if there is any blockage or swelling but it is hard to tell from the photo.
If there doesn't appear to be any blockage then it could also be small food items. The smaller the food item the less the waste.
What kind of enclosure are you keeping it in?
You would be very suprised how well they can "hide" their waste.
Make sure to check evry inch of the enclosure, especially around the perimeter. And keep an eye on the water dish. This can be a favorite dumping station for some snakes.
just a couple of thoughts

Well I checked every inch... and what I thought was a small piece of bark turned out to be a very small turd on the perimeter, as you said. They DO hide it well. I was expecting something a little more big and smelly. I never noticed it before so maybe she just pooped last night.

Thanks,
Andy

Good to hear Andy,
You can rest at ease now. Your snake is doing it's job, so to speak....lol.
Good luck

Sometimes my female FL king seems to take a little longer than others to get the "load" out. Whenever that happens I find that a 20 minute soak in lukewarm water does the trick real nice.
