pitfall traps?

Has anyone used pitfall traps? i wont to sit some this coming spring and was wanting some info. and tips on them

Bad idea. It's a lazy man's way of collecting. Many animals have met their death because of someone forgetting or not checking the traps. It's best to just put in a days work.

They don't work well for snakes other than really small species and you have to provide some way to prevent the animals from drowning. Then you have to check them EVERY day, as small mammals, such as shrews can fall in and kill other species in there.

Finally, it is illegal in some states to collect by this method. You are much better off putting out some coverboards or tin (depending on where you live).
