Hi there! Tegus are awesome lizards, though there have only been a few that I've heard of be house trained. One facet that has helped with mine is to place them in the tub (sounds sick, but......) with warm-hot water running, this will trigger them to defecate in the tub, or help trained them. Once they do this, mine have been roaming the house for hours without any problems. I have also heard some individuals place cypress mulch (or their bedding) on plastic or newspaper and they would occassionally use that. To be honest I have not tried this avenue.

Good luck!!!
