Hi all ,

yes i have a friend that as a abw tegu that was wild caught and that came to its name after about a month and it also potty trand its self in a month or 2 chad lane
my voice. I have never been able to potty train him, although he is smart enough. Maybe he has me conditioned to clean up his messes.
Under the heading fun Tegu tricks: Tegus love fresh water. Tonight I was spraying him with a squirt bottle. He ran up close, opened his mouth a little and let me squirt in his mouth. Really funny to watch. I thought my birddog was the only one that did that trick.

Ok , thank you .
And the others ?
What can we learn to them , except recognize their name ?
Thanks ,
Adrien
You can probably train them to do almost anything. You just have to take the time to do it. My tegu responds to his name, differently than if I'm just talking to him. He doesnt really like any toys I got him though. You can potty train them, leash train, and probably some basic voice commands like stay.

Hello Beth ,
Thank you very much for your answer .
Mine are quite young ( 5 months old ) , so I'm going to start to learn to them those things now ...
Adrien
do you have any ideas on the potty training???
mike
Well, in general, I think most people would agree that their tegu likes to "go potty" right after it is taken out of the cage. So what you can do is reinforce that by even saying "go potty _____" and maybe have a paper towel down so he gets used to a new feeling under his feet to associate with the going potty. If he goes potty when he isnt supposed to, that is his way of saying "hey, put me back I dont want to be out" (its a defense mechanism, snakes do it, lizards do it, frogs do it, you know what I mean) well if you put him back, he has won, in a sense. In that case, DONT put him back, just clean up the mess as best you can with him still out. This is also a way of getting them used to being handled when they dont want to. If you do the paper towel thing, use the same kind each time, or maybe even have an old rag he can go on. Someone had mentioned using the bathtub for this as well. That is a good idea because he will get used to the feeling of the bathtub and know this is where he needs to go potty, hopefully. Running some warm water in the bath also helps things along, the warm sensation makes them feel "the urge."
This is what I believe could work if you have the time and dedication for it, not something you can do in a week. This information shouldnt be misconstrued as "the way" to do it, Im sure there are other ways I didnt mention because I probably dont know them. Good luck and dont give up.
