Yes you can. Hook up the hovabator to the helix and stick the probe in with the eggs. You should do a test run before you incubate the eggs to make sure everything works out right.

is to clip the two wires running to the Hovabators heat coil, leaving as much wire as possible. Then cut the female end off an extension cord and wire that to the heat coil wires. Now you can plug the heat coil directly into your Helix. This will completely bypass the wafer thermostat used by the Hovabator eliminating that from causing any problems.

Great advice, George! That would be the best way.

Hmm... I've got a Hova-Bator Turbo model stored away in the closet. I might just take your advice and start using it again. Thanks. =)

What I did with mine years ago was first dump the bottom part of the Hovabator and mount the heating coil to a flat piece of foam. Next I built a wood box with the same inner diameter as the outer diameter of the Hovabator's top, placed the piece of foam with the heat coil attached in the bottom of the box and cut a couple pieces of foam to put on the sides for the top to rest on. I personally think having the heating coil on the bottom radiating heat through the substrate is better than heating from the top drying out the eggs. All I had to do after that was drill a couple holes in the box for dowels to rest the egg boxes on. With the right power tools it is easier than it may sound.

Amazingly I was able to dig it out of my garage and take a picture.

George's advice is great but, I would wire a Male PLUG in onto the heat element rather that cut the HELIX cord cord and wire it directly to the Helix. Reason for doing this: (1) you might want to unplug the Helix to use on a different Incubator you wouldn't have to cut the cord again all you would have to do is Unplug the hovabator. But that would just be my adivice, Georges Idea is nice though I just don't like cutting the cords on my Helix, I like to keep them intact. Hope this helps. Thanks David

Then cut the female end off an extension cord and wire the male end to the heat coil wires.

It will work either way, But I just prefer not to cut the helix cords in anyway... but I have seen people wire the heat elements directly to the control unit. I am thinking of getting one of the The herpstat that you sell. How much do you ask for them? Thanks DAVID

Picture of my New Incubator for the 2005 season. It can hold 18-20 shoe boxes and has 6 shelves that are 7 inches apart. hope you all like

The only reason you would ever need to cut the cord to the thermostat would be if you wanted to build it into your incubator and cut down on wires. Other than that you wire your male connector to the heat element so it can be plugged into the thermostats female receptacle.

If you want to e-mail me directly or give me a call I can let you know more about the Herpstat, I don't want to break any rules.

Thanks,
George
